Deepika Padukone is an Indian film actress and model, primarily known for her work in Hindi language films of Bollywood. Born to badminton player Prakash Padukone, she eschewed a career in sports to pursue a full-time career in film.Following a successful modelling career, Padukone made her acting debut as the titular character of the 2006 Kannada film Aishwarya. In 2007 she played dual roles in Om Shanti Om, a hugely successful melodrama that won her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She followed it with roles in the 2008 romantic comedy Bachna Ae Haseeno and the 2009 romance Love Aaj Kal, both of which were commercially successful but earned little praise for her performance. A leading role in the 2010 drama Lafangey Parindey was more favourably received, but critics generally perceived at this time that she had “lost her sparkle”.
